I know it can be recovered since I recall reading about it years ago but I just don't remember the details. Now it simply stuck on the apple screen and making a pinging sound every 5 seconds. I am using verison 12.13.0.9 of itunes on Windows 11. Itunes then spent a long time stating 'Preparing iPad for restore' and then came up with an error message 'The iPAD 'iPad' coudl not be restored. To get the older versions of iTunes, search in Google.
To get the iPod back on track, its best to install an old version of iTunes on a Windows PC. Download iTunes 12.13.1. I got the ipad into DFU mode connected to iTunes. The older iPods are no longer supported by the new iTunes 12.9. I now recall that I shouldn't have done this! I have tried to update the firmware using recovery mode. Unfortunately, it is now stuck in a boot loop wiht the apple logo visible. Anyway, I wanted to set it up with my itunes details and went into the settings and selected a full reset. It hasn't been used for 3-4 years so it will be at least that old.
It is model A1489 and I don't know which firmware it had or which jailbreak I used.
